Yes, that’s right, booking is now open for Repository Fringe 2011 via our EventBrite page!

The event will take place from Wednesday 3rd to Thursday 4th August with a further day or Workshops on Friday 5th and we would ask that you please book for each day you plan to attend as this will greatly help us with organisation and catering. If you sign up for the workshop day we will be in touch when all workshops are confirmed with details of how to book for these individually.

Our venue, familiar to those who attended the 2009 Repository Fringe,  is the Informatics Forum in George Square, Edinburgh.  The Forum is right in the heart of the city centre and sits moments away from some of the most vibrant Edinburgh Festival Fringe venues.

We recommend booking transport and accommodation as early as possible this year as Edinburgh gets extremely busy in August – it is said that the population of the city doubles during the Festival!

As in previous years our programme is still developing but we will have a broad outline available for you soon (it will appear both here on the blog and on the booking page) so now is a great time to send in your ideas and contributions for this years Repository Fringe.

If you would like to present some work or ideas, see a particular discussion or round table take place, would like to give a Pecha Kucha, etc. then we’d love to hear from you.  Email us (repofringe@gmail.com) or leave a comment below.

Do tell your colleagues, interested repository friends and anyone else you think might enjoy and have interesting contributions to make to this year’s event (the tag/hashtag is #rfringe11).

We think this will be another fantastic RepoFringe and we’d love to see you along!

The University of Edinburgh with support from the Digital Curation Centre, EDINA, and Information Services are delighted to annouce that the 4th Annual Repository Fringe event will be held in the Informatics Forum on 3-5 August 2011. Further sponsors and supporters to be announced.

Repository Fringe aims to showcase a range of innovative repository and related developments to coincide with ‘preview week’ that precedes the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Designed for an audience of developers and coders, repository managers and practitioners, the programme retains an ‘unconference’ feel to it, and seeks to canvass contribution from a wide range of repository actors
for:

  • Live demonstrations of innovative work;
  • “Lightning” presentations on any subject relating to current, or future repository endeavours;
  • Facilitated Round Table discussions;
  • Tutorials and presentations on related topics;
  • Workshops and developer day activities including a ‘Code Challenge’ and CETIS meeting: ‘Advances in Open Systems for Learning Resources’ on Friday, 5 August.

Keynote speakers will open and close Repository Fringe 2011.

The dates of the event coincide with the start of the Edinburgh Festival season, which includes Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival (22 July – 31 July 2011), Edinburgh Art Festival (4 Aug – 4 Sept. 2011), Edinburgh Festival Fringe (5 Aug. – 29 Aug. 2011), Edinburgh International Festival (12 Aug. – 4 Sept. 2011), Edinburgh International Book Festival
(13 Aug. – 29 Aug.) as well as the usual impromptu street theatre, musicians and sideshows.

Registration for this free event will open shortly

Welcome to our new blog for 2011. This site is currently under construction but we will be adding content here over the next few weeks and would love to hear from any potential contributors, sponsors or attendees of this year’s Repository Fringe if you have any ideas about what you would like to see on the website or at the event.

For now the best place to find information on Repository Fringe is our 2010 blog.

As we mentioned at the end of March (on our old site) we are currently planning the Repository Fringe 2011 and we now have a wee update to report.

We are hoping to again have a two day repository fringe event and one day of workshops/meetings this year so grab those diaries and pencil 3rd, 4th and 5th August in as the expected Repository Fringe dates.

The dates also cunningly dovetail the Edinburgh Festival Fringe preview week so once we have finalised the details we’ll let you know here on the blog and through the usual mailing lists as it will be important to book travel and accommodation early.

As ever if you are interested in taking part (with a talk, pecha kucha, roundtable, workshop etc) or sponsoring the event it’s never too early to give us a wee shout (repofringe@gmail.com).
